Sea Sheep – This Adorable Sea Slug Eats So Many Algae

Is this a cow? Or is this a sheep? No, this is none other than a green sheep, his name is Costasiella Kuroshimae. And also, he is known as the salty ocean caterpillar. This animal is one you have never heard of before. Unique creatures of the animal world never cease to amaze us every day. This little sea slug with vibrant colors will definitely take your breath away.

This animal also looks very similar to a cartoon character. This leaf sheep has beady eyes and cute feelers that give her an adorable look. Just like cartoon sea sheep, these creatures too feed on algae. And they grow up to 5mm in length. This leaf slug was found near the Japanese island of Kuroshima in 1993. They are found near some Asian countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan.

These extraordinary sea slugs consume algae and absorb chloroplasts. They feed on green algae and utilize the chloroplasts in their diet to produce their own energy through a process known as kleptoplasty. In other cases, this process can only be carried out by single-celled organisms. So technically they are very similar to solar-powered slugs. Isn’t that really mind-blowing? Its vibrant complexions are beautified with colors such as green, purple, and white. These leaf sheep can be well observed on a black background.
